Morreu no último domingo, 20, o homem mais velho do mundo, o japonês Masazo Nonaka, aos 113. Ele faleceu enquanto dormia, em casa, na ilha de Hokkaido, no Japão. A família de Nonaka concedeu entrevista para a imprensa local. “Estamos tristes pela perda desta grande figura”, disse sua neta Yuko.

Masazo Nonaka recebeu do Guinness World Records o título de homem mais velho do mundo, em abril do ano passado, depois que o espanhol Francisco Nunez Olivera morreu aos 113 anos. Nonaka nasceu em 25 de julho de 1905. Agricultor e lenhador na juventude, o japonês administrou uma pousada de fonte termal na sua cidade natal, na ilha de Hokkaido, a 900 quilômetros ao norte de Tóquio, até passar o controle do estabelecimento aos herdeiros. Criou dois filhos e três filhas.

Segundo sua família contou à época em que ele foi considerado o homem mais velho do mundo, ele adorava assistir a duelos de sumô na televisão, lia diariamente os jornais. O japonês também gostava muito de comer doces, bolos especialmente.
